Fundraising to get 4X more!

posted Nov 16, 2020, 9:51 AM by Jose Bermudez   [ updated Nov 16, 2020, 9:52 AM ]

We are happy to announce a new fundraising program at St. Therese.  Well, it’s not really a new program.  Some of you might be familiar with it from when St. Therese School participated in it a while back, but it has been updated due to COVID.  It involves buying gift cards and for each one purchased, St. Therese will receive a % back in a rebate with different percentages, ranging from 2% - 20%, from over 750 brands/stores.   Some of them are Amazon, Kohl’s, Target, WalMart, Penney’s, Meijer, Walgreens, CVS, Speedway, Starbucks, Burger King, Wendy’s, Subway, Outback Steakhouse, Sam’s Club, Jiffy Lube & Home Depot, as well as many other gas, grocery, dining, home improvement, electronic, sporting good & home décor places.  Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards are also available to buy & the usual $4 or $5 purchase fee is waived.

There are 2 options to order.  One is to pay by ordering & sending a check to the rectory to have your order processed.  The other way is to order online at ShopWithScrip.com on your computer or through the RaiseRight app available from the App Store or Play Store.  You set up an account with a secure PIN/password and link your bank account (for a small 15¢ fee) or use Visa, MasterCard or Discover (for a 2.6% fee) to pay for the gift cards you purchase.  For example, if you order a $10.00 card by using Visa, MasterCard or Discover there will be a fee of less than 30¢. Either way, you’ll need to enter our enrollment code so that St. Therese gets the rebate credit from your purchase.  If you choose to have eCards, they’ll be available almost immediately.  Due to COVID, 250 of the brands now allow you to choose to have the actual cards sent by mail to your house for a small transaction fee.  If you do not choose to have them sent directly to you, they will need to be picked up from the rectory.  If you sign up to receive emails, you will be notified of bonus offers.  We are planning on placing 2 group orders before Christmas.  The deadlines will be Friday, November 20 and Friday, December 11.

Although this might seem a little complicated, it’s really not.  It’s easy, secure, & convenient.  You buy gift cards like you so often do for birthday & holiday gift giving - or even to use yourself.  Then St. Therese earns money for each card purchased.  The money raised will help make up some funds that we missed out on by not having our annual festival and other fundraisers this year.  More information is available on ShopWithScrip.com or the St. Therese website or FaceBook or by calling the rectory and asking for Mary Arnold.

Don’t be left out!  Please plan on participating, making it a win-win situation for you & for St. Therese.  Since we have just signed up ourselves, our enrollment code might not yet be available for a few days.

Thanks in advance.

A Message from Most Reverend David J. Malloy Bishop of Rockford

** STATEMENT UPDATED AS OF 2:00 PM, 3/17/2020 **

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The outbreak of the coronavirus has become an event unique in our lifetime. While diseases and epidemics have always been a part of human history, in recent decades medical advances have largely protected us from such outbreaks, at least in our part of the world.

As we have seen in recent days, the growth in understanding of the danger of this virus along with the corresponding expansion of guidance from health professionals has impacted our lives as believers and as citizens. First and foremost, we are people of faith. Our lives of prayer, the sacraments and the practice of our faith come together as our witness to the gift of faith. In that context, the Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” (Lumen Gentium 11).

At the same time, as citizens we are participants in our society and so we bear our responsibility to contribute to the common good.

** STATEMENT UPDATED AS OF 2:00 PM, 3/13/2020 **

Statement to the faithful of the Diocese of Rockford from Bishop David J. Malloy

March 13, 2020

Dear Priests, Deacons and Parishioners,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely; in all your ways be mindful of Him, and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

In response to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Diocese of Rockford, its parish communities and schools have implemented its guidelines for Influenza and the Liturgy to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. With further guidance from the Center for Disease Control and, more recently, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, and in reviewing the guidance of the health departments of the counties comprising the Diocese, taking into account our pastoral mission and service to all members of the faithful and the public, I am hereby issuing the following statement.
